DESCRIPTION
Silybum marianum is a tall, purple
flowered plant of Mediterranean belonging to the Daisy family.
In 1970s, German Scientists were able to isolate the ingredient
of Silybum marianum seeds that directly protects the liver
cells. They called this component Silymarin. Silymarin has
a number of unique functions and is a particulary powerful
antioxidant/free radical scavenger. It has been found to
be particulary effective against the free radicals that
cause the liver cells to degenerate. Silymarin also appears
to increase on the liver's most important de toxification
enzyme, glutathione. Silymarin also stimulates the production
of protein in the liver. This results in the generation of
new cells to replace old or damaged cells. Silymarin has also been used in treatment of Hepatic
disorder in humans, infact, a German medical
study, found that liver function in patients with chronic
heapatitis improved after three months of therapy with Silybum
marianum.
Phyllanthus amarus, which studies
have shown to exhibit a protective action on the liver.
Research has also shown its antiviral properties in liver
conditions. Eclipta elba has demonstrated hepatoprotective
activity by regulating the levels of hepatic microsomal
drug metabolizing enzymes. Picrorhiza kurroa has demonstrated
cholagogue and laxative properties; and Tinospora cardifolia
has been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and antibacterial
actions.
SIDE EFFECT
No side effect has been observed in
